Hm, are you trying to probe the  correct device???
Internal modems are often jumpered to be COM3 (i.e. /dev/ttyS2) or COM4
(dev/ttys3) - and don't try and give faxaddmodem the complete path; ttyS2
or ttyS3 should be enough.
