Hello Holger,

Thanks Holger, but that's not it. I've always had that message whether
successful or not. I am pretty sure that FaxGetty simply wants to lock other
processes out while it is using the modem, and since I set my modem to
/dev/ttyS1, it can't. If I had set it to /dev/modem, then it could. I believe
that's correct.
Just recently was able to once more shoot out a fax successfully,
and it has the lock line it it. Could not repeat this success. Sigh.

I just uninstalled mgetty. Then I uninstalled HylaFax and reinstalled
it. Same thing happening. And my processes seem harmless. I think I have a
handshake problem. Here are my processes (keep in mind ppp is running since
I'm connected at the moment):

I'm beginning to suspect that I may not have been as well setup as I
thought. I changed nothing.

Thanks for looking.
