Use a text formatting program that is old enough to not try and place every
character (probably unacceptable) or edit the output file (probably 
unacceptable).

You might be better off trying to use one of the ps to text utilities, but
the one with ghostscript cannot always reconstruct the spacing correctly.
Broken spacing may not be a problem if spaces are not significant.

(What you see in most Postscript is procedure calls for each character or
sequence (in older programs) of characters, with the string and a parameter
which gives positioning information - often in the form of the spacing, or
the excess over the natural spacing).
