uhh... if I am rembering right, all you have to do is to inactivate Hylafax' 
faxgetty in the inittab and to install a working vgetty. From then on Hylafax 
will only use outbound services (see man faxq).

Installing vgetty is more or lesse straightforward (I recommend PalMail for 
viewing faxes and listening to voice messages). You should be aware of locking 
the same devices in both hylafax and vgetty (modem or ttySx...)
