Sounds like they've changed their firmware again.  What rev are they shipping
now (ati1 gives the rev)?

You should try working with their tech support - I've generally found them 
helpful.

If at&v gives you a response, there've been major changes to their modems.
That query function usually only works with Rockwell chip sets.  The older
MT2834 modems used ATL4 and ATL5 for queries.

What are the responses to the other queries, viz., ATI0, ATI1, ATI6, AT+FMFR?, 
AT+FMDL?

If they've made a major change to the modem design, the config file will be 
quite different.  

I've just put a MT5600ZDX into service, but the config file is closer to the
file 'rc144ac' in the config directory.
