Did I miss something, or have you not read the hfaxd manpage. I may be missing 
the early bits of this thread *puzzle*

SYNOPSIS
       /usr/sbin/hfaxd  [ -d ] [ -q dir ] [ -o port ] [ -O ] [ -i
       port ] [ -I ] [ -s port ] [ -S ]

note the `-o port`
