Exactly as it says.  Something else already has the modem open, possibly
as /dev/ttyS0.  It is possible that hylafax is locking itself out,
and you should check the setserial options used, although a two year
old beta is quite happy using /dev/cua0.

Incidentally, /dev/cua0 is deprecated and will be removed in future
versions of Linux.
