hfaxd won't start

I am trying to install v4.0pl2 on a Linux 2.0.34 system hfaxd -i 4559 will not stay alive. The syslog reports: Jul 2 .... linux HylaFAX[PID]: stat(/dev/null): No such file or directory what does this mean? Thanks for any help Tony atruscott@ucsd.edu
