I have since been able to pin the problem down a little better. The
sending works fine on COM2 (/dev/cua1 on Linux). I experienced my
problems above with 'intelligent' serial ports (in this case, Computone).
It appears to work OK when using the Computone non-modem-control port
(/dev/cuf0) but gives the above problem when using the 'modem-control' port
(/dev/ttyF0).
Can someone give an ide of what goes on at the stage that error message
occurs on the sending system? Is there any danger running HylaFAX/faxgetty
on 'non-modem-control' ports?
Thanks.
