Problem with sendfax

Hi,
I run Solaris 2.5.1 with hylaFAX 4.0pl1 and have problems sending faxes.
This is new installation - I am learning.
When I run faxstat I get Waiting for modem to come ready.
Program reports the  Error getting modem capabilities
Any suggestions on fixing the problem would be greatly appreciated.
