    Hi all,

    Newbie here can't get 3.0pl1 going on SunOS 4.1.3 because the ...lib/fax
    scripts such as probemodem don't seem to recognize that there is 'echo
    -n' available. The script header identifies the target correctly as
    sparc-sun-sunos4.1.3, so I presume the configure step was at least half
    right. The message before exit is:

    	You don't seem to have a System V-style echo command
    	or a BSD-style printf command. I'm bailing out...

echo -n does not do everything needed/expected by probemodem (or faxaddmodem);
that's why the scripts abort. printf is part of the GNU shell utils package.
