    Hello Sam and HylaFax users,

Is there a world-wide standard for distinctive ring cadences ?

Telstra (Australian telephone service provider) have just upgraded
the telephone network to offer distinctive ringing (or EasyCall
Multiple Number as the Telstra marketing people call it.) and have
been told to expect my fax number to ring using Distinctive Ring
    number 7.

To configure HylaFax to answer to this ring is it a simple modem
config. change as stated in the advanced documentation to set this
to number 7 and it should work or are there any other tasks to define
the distinctive ring cadence numbers elsewhere ?

I understand my modem requires distinctive ring support enabled
in its firmware to use this HylaFax feature.

The software simply interprets status messages from your modem to decide
if an inbound call is fax/data/voice. You have to configure your modem
and the software to specify the relationship between status messages and
call types. This stuff is explained in the documentation.

        Sam
