To: hylafax-users@hylafax.org Subject: Hylafax - Courier V.everything - 2DMR encoding ? Date: Sun, 25 Aug 1996 07:08:10 EDT From: ron@mlfarm.com (Ronald Florence) Our Hylafax daemon (v4.0, Sunos-4.1.3), using a USR Courier V.Everything modem, reports the following error with one fax machine we dial: Aug 23 16:56:43.48: [ 8823]: REMOTE best rate 14400 bit/s Aug 23 16:56:43.48: [ 8823]: REMOTE max page width 1728 pixels in 215 mm Aug 23 16:56:43.48: [ 8823]: REMOTE max unlimited page length Aug 23 16:56:43.48: [ 8823]: REMOTE best vres 7.7 line/mm Aug 23 16:56:43.48: [ 8823]: REMOTE best format 2-D MR Aug 23 16:56:43.48: [ 8823]: REMOTE best 10 ms, 5 ms/scanline Aug 23 16:56:43.48: [ 8823]: USE 14400 bit/s Aug 23 16:56:43.50: [ 8823]: USE 10 ms, 5 ms/scanline Aug 23 16:56:43.50: [ 8823]: SEND file "docq/doc42.ps;71" Aug 23 16:56:43.52: [ 8823]: Document was encoded with 2DMR, but modem does not support this data format The firmware in the modem is listed as (supervisor date 04.29/96, dsp date 04/11/96, supervisor rev 6.5.0, dsp rev 1.3.2). The modem is used in Class-2.0 fax mode by the Hylafax daemon. As far as I can tell from the Hylafax documentation, Hylafax is supposed to adjust the compression to the optimal scheme supported by both the transmitting modem and the receiving fax device. Is this send failure a problem of the modem, or perhaps a misconfiguration of Hylafax? In either case, how can I prevent the problem? Thanks in advance for suggestions by email, The modem is incapable of transmitting 2D-encoded data but HylaFAX has been told that it is capable of doing this. My guess is that you used faxmodem to notify the scheduler that the modem exists and you specified the wrong capabilities. If you run faxgetty then this will not happen. The setup instructions discuss the correct way to run faxmodem and of course there is the manual page. Sam
