HylaFAX is purely a command-line-based facsimile transport system;
much like mail transport packages such as sendmail and MMDF. There
are several freely available packages that provide a front-end
to the HylaFAX software for sending facsimile and/or for monitoring
the HylaFAX send and receive queues:
- faxtool
is a GUI package written by Tom Corson for Sun systems; it
requires XView.
- viewfax
is an excellent viewfax program written by Frank Cringle.
- winflex
is a Windows 3 client written by
Peter Bentley
- faxmgr2
is a successor to faxmgr
written by
Chris Beekhuis; it too is available only
in a binary installable for for SGI systems.
faxmgr2 is available in a variety of locations including several CD-ROMS
distributed to SGI customers (Developers Toolkit, IndiZone, etc.)
- tkhylafax
is a TCL/Tk-based GUI package written by
Andy Moskoff.
- sfax
is a simple, terminal based interface to the HylaFAX
sendfax
program written by Ken Hornstein.
- macflex
is a Macintosh client written by Rob Newberry.
- whfc
is a client for Win95 written by Ulrich Eckhardt.
A bit unrelated, but perhaps interesting,
is the "Remote Printing Experiment" being conducted by folks
on the Internet. This provides a distributed fax delivery service that
uses email to relay facsimile to a local site for delivery. For info
