John, on every instance of faxgetty, I have a log entry in my syslog 
showing what tty was activated.  Here is a snippit:

This, of course, is a failed send (just tried for this illustration) but a 
simple scripting could pull out the info you need.

A look at your log file using:
[root@maplepark:~]#grep 'SEND FAX.*DEVICE' /var/log/messages
should expose the messages you want.  YMMV with log formats and directory 
though.
