[hylafax-users] Fax received ok, but sender thinks it failed and resends

I have installed HylaFAX on my Ubuntu 6.06.2 LTS box from Ubuntu's packages (version
reports HylaFAX (tm) Version 4.2.5). I have a Compaq (Actiontec) PM560LKI 56K PCI modem
(manifests as a COM port, ttyS4). Hylafax seems to be working well so far. I have received
a couple of faxes just fine, but there seems to be a prevailing issue. First, I was
getting an error about "failure to receive silence", which I found here:
http://www.hylafax.org/archive/2002-08/msg00260.php

I did the change recommended there, and that error has gone away.

However, everyone who has sent me a fax so far has experienced that their fax machine
keeps retrying sending the fax, believing it didn't go through. My end got it ok, it
appears. "Brother" made MFC fax devices sending to me report "Poor line condition" though
the received fax looks great here.

Here is a log entry for one of these receives. For brevity I've edited out the
repetitive middle parts where it was all the same "RECV received frame number n" with no
errors, and I masked out the phone numbers involved.

I'm guessing something in the final song & dance goes in the wrong order and leads to
the other end not getting the all-clear, but I don't know diddly about Class 1 fax
protocol, so I'm appealing here for help.

I can post other config files if you want, but I wasn't sure which was relevant and
didn't want to just spam you with config crap.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

(Hylafax is replacing a 1997-vintage "Gateway 2000" Pentium Pro 200 with 64Mb of RAM
that has been running WinNT and WinFax Pro. This machine has reliably run more or less
continuously since its purchase in 1997. It is the oldest running machine in our company,
and deserves retirement with full benefits to a beach in Cabo where it will receive free
umbrella drinks for life. ;)
