HylaFAX The world's most advanced open source fax server |
What you are looking for
is called DID and it is a service from the phone company. The phone company
assigns you a block of numbers and you get a DID line. Then you assign each
employee that needs one a number. When someone calls that number, it goes onto
the one fax line, and the information is reported to Hylafax as to what number
the call was to. This allows you to setup a table in hylafax that says for number
xxx send to email address yyy@xxxxxxxxxxx.
It is a little complicated,
but some phone companies offer it over a POTS (plain old telephone system) line.
If they don’t, you will need to get a partial T1 (much more expensive fax
hardware) or an analog DID line (avoid if at all possible – expensive hardware
and complex). It is also possible to do this through a phone system, most PBXs
will route a DID call to the fax server keeping the DID digits intact. What you
need for a typical analog line modem or fax card to receive DID information is
for the source (phone company directly or PBX) to ring the line, then send 4
DTMF tones indicating what number is being called then continue as with a
normal call. Remember that for
incoming calls you are not typically charged for usage so you can add as many
lines as you like for a very low monthly fee. The additional expense is the fax
hardware to handle the extra line(s). Happy Faxing, -Siri Vias From:
