No... but it operates differently from faxgetty, and nearly all users 
expect the faxgetty-like operation, and thus when they attempt to use 
faxmodem and then "it doesn't work" ... it's more a factor of them using 
faxmodem and expecting faxgetty behavior.  Since that seems to be the 
case here... I wouldn't worry too much about faxmodem for yourself.  
It's only *needed* in rather rare scenarios.
