Re: [hylafax-users] Encrypted FAX

Does anyone know how widely supported the encryption options in T.30

I assume that you refer to ITU T.30 Annexes G (HKM/HFX) and H (RSA)
which are advertised in DIS bits 81 through 91 (excluding 88)...
The answer is that they're not widely supported at all. Every time I've
ever surveyed for them over the past years I've not found any machines
"in the wild" that supported these features. For example, I just now
surveyed DIS information from 12,328 different receiver destinations in
one database that I have. None of them indicated any ITU T.30
security/encryption support.
I've heard of encryption being used in "proprietary" scenarios (i.e.
between dedicated fax machines for various branches of the same
business) and in particular in the banking industry... but I don't even
know if they're using Annexes G or H or if they're using their own
proprietary security measures. (I tend to believe the latter... done
via NSF/NSS.)
And this is off-topic, but in fact the only bits I ever see supported
beyond bit 80 are bits 97-98, and 105-111 - all of which are resolution
features.
Thanks,
Lee.
