Re: [hylafax-users] Hardware suggestions to get Hylafax running?
Hi Andrew,
A 2-port wouldn't a whole lot for us unfortunately, as I'm looking to have this system potentially replace our 9 or so operational fax machines as well as the faxpress. We have a sales team that does a lot of broadcast faxing, and 2 ports is barely enough to get all their queued faxes out within a reasonable time frame (~600-1000 faxes per rep) during our sales period. This is why I've been aiming more at the 8 port devices/cards -- 4 in and 4 out should allow enough movement so that things don't back up too hideously in the queues.
And that's where the price takes off faster than a Saturn V. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have the government's budget on something like this and get something solid enough to withstand the tests of time, but that's not an option I have presently.
Cheers,
--Josh

We're looking at either shelling our $695 to Castelle to upgrade our 2-line Faxpress unit to their latest software model, or seeing whether I can devise something for the same price or less. So I figured I'd start on the cheap-side of things and move upwards on the price range as I begin to assemble in my head the kinds of components needed, but try to stay under that $695 figure.
For the record, our 2-Port IQ Express board retails for $599 (even
cheaper on the web). So, it looks as if replacing your 2-Port Faxpress
with a Mainpine/HylaFAX solution is within your budget. The other big
advantage of this solution is that it's extremely simple to deploy and
support (probably as close to a 'plug and play' fax server as you will get).
