[hylafax-users] "COMREC invalid response received to PPS" after sending

Hi all,

Hylafax newbie here!

I've been using Hylafax for a week with very nice results. My only
problem seems to be faxing to certain fax modems, which is the subject
of this email.

Some outgoing faxes fail with a "COMREC invalid response received to
PPS" error. It seems that we receive a DCN instead of a MCF (in normal
logs), but I don't know why. This error seems to happen consistently
with some remote sets, but not all.

During the week I've found 3 remote sets (out of 27 sets called) which
exhibit this behavior, one of them being a "Canon Laser Class 2060", the
others not identified. Some recipients have complained that they were
getting the same fax message three times, however the message was
intact.

I've included one of the logs at the end of this message. I hope
somebody knowledgeable can help me get more info and resolve this
problem!

I've googled a bit, and I tried adding "Class1JBIGSupport: no" to my
modem config as suggested in an earlier mailinglist post[1], seeing that
the FreeBSD port had linked in JBIG support, and JBIG was used on some
(not all) of the failures. This did not resolve the errors.

My external modem is a Sitecom DC-014 which has a Conexant chip. I am
using the FreeBSD 'hylafax-4.3.4' port which is the latest available in
ports. Would compiling a new version give me any chances, or does this
likely point to a configuration error?
