Re: [hylafax-users] T38modem options for hylafax

Looking for some updated information, as I am working with Trixbox 2.3 beta which has T.38 passthrough (Asterisk 1.4). Note that Trixbox 2.3 runs over Centos 5.0....

I am trying to interconnect Hylafax to an Avaya using T.38. From what
I understand, I can use t38modem (from the OpenH323) to send the fax
via h.323 on asterisk. Are there any solutions for sending faxes with
t.38 using SIP/RTP? Or UDPTL packets? I would like to use a solution
that does not rely on asterisk and I am open to either open source or
proprietary solutions. Any and all suggestions are welcome.
t38modem in CVS now supports SIP through OPAL. See:

http://t38modem.sourceforge.net/

cvs -z9 -d
:pserver:anonymous@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:/cvsroot/openh323 co
ptlib_unix
cvs -z9 -d
:pserver:anonymous@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:/cvsroot/openh323 co opal

As I have just recently found out, t38modem only supports opal as of "21 May 2007", so when you check it out using the above command, add the following to your cvs command:

-D "21 May 2007"

and you should be ready to roll.
I know I can get an rpm for Hylafax to install on Trixbox 2.3, but I have 2 (only 2!?) questions about T38modem.

On sourceforge, the code is from March '07. Is that the same (v 0.8.4) as from opal?

The code on sourceforge doesn't even really work with RHEL/Centos, as it uses old code handling that requires kernel patches. Which just seems sad, as IAXModem does basically the same without needing to patch the kernel.

Is this still the case with what is available from opal? And what do I need to get it installed/working? I have not moved past rpms to using cvs yet....

cvs -z9 -d
:pserver:anonymous@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:/cvsroot/openh323 co
t38modem

Lee.
