Re: [hylafax-users] HylaFAX on SmartLink modem

Hi Marino,

You will find that software modems such as the SmartLink are unsuitable for
reliable fax communication. You will save a lot of time and effort if you
get yourself a hardware modem based on the Agere Venus chipset.

If this is a serious application then get a machine with a PCI Express slot
and a 'real' fax card;

Subject: [hylafax-users] HylaFAX on SmartLink modem

Hello

I am using Ubuntu 7.04, HylaFAX 4.3.1-3, SmartLink Soft Modem,
2.9.9e-pre1 on Acer TravelMate 240.

Has anyone managed to setup this modem successfully? In my case, the
computer dials the target, which answers. I can hear the beep and the
wabble sounds. However the fax is not sent. probemodem shows that I
have a Class 1 SmartLink Soft Modem, 2.9.9e-pre1. ATI8, ATI9,
AT+FJUNK=?, AT+FJUNK?, AT+FAA=?, AT+FAA?, AT+FAE=?, AT+FAE?, AT+FTS=?
and AT+FRS=? yields RESULT = "ERROR" RESPONSE = "ERROR"

The configuration file has
# EDIT THIS CONFIGURATION TO REFLECT YOUR SETUP
#

#
ModemType: Class1 # use this to supply a hint
#
Class1Cmd: AT+FCLASS=1	# command to enter class 1
