After TZONE LOCAL you should get a response like:

200 Using time values in PST.

You'll notice the "Service not available..." message.  It means that 
hfaxd closed the connection or (more likely) crashed.  I cannot 
reproduce the problem on HylaFAX+ 5.1.4.
