Re: [hylafax-users] Decrease error check will prevent T.30 T2 timeout error ?

I have hylafax running for a week now with that USR modem on Class 2.
I only got maybe 3 error pages during that week out of 120 faxes. Then
from a previous post Lee recomended I swithc to class 1. I did and now
for 1 day I been getting lots of T.30 T1 Time Out and T.30 T2 Time
Out.

I am seriously thinking of switching it back to class 2 and see the
difference. We get faxes from the same numbers everyday .. aprox 20
(minimum a day) so if I see less errors using class2 than class 1.. I
can assume it's better. Plus I got a bunch of multitech modems aswell
I can mix them in and see which ones work better :P

But so far you're telling me that it is MY modem that is causing the
problmes? How do I know it's not the sender's fault and not mine ?

Hi George,

If you search the mail archives you will find lots of people reporting
problems with USR modems. You will find that fixing one area will break
another... and in my opinion you will never get a solid solution.

Invest in a modem based on an Agere (now LSI) Venus or CFAX34 chipset....
you will save yourself a lot of time and effort.

Hi again,

After switching my US robotics modem (U.S. Robotics 56K FAX EXT
V1.915M) from Class 2 to Class 1 I started getting some odd errors
(maybe it was just bad luck I don't know) on Hylafax+ 5.1.2.

For 1 certain fax I got "T.30 T2 timeout, expected page not received"
twice and then "RSPREC error/got DCN" I looked at the TIFF files , it
seems that the first 2 times only the first page came through. The
second one looked like the first page and some black lines at the end.

Snips of the log files are as follows:
----
May 3 21:29:40 faxserver FaxGetty[20304]: MODEM U.S. ROBOTICS 56K FAX
EXT V1.915M 5604/
May 3 21:30:09 faxserver FaxGetty[20304]: ANSWER: FAX CONNECTION
DEVICE '/dev/ttyS0'
May 3 21:30:58 faxserver FaxGetty[20304]: RECV: REJECT page quality,

session with <UNSPECIFIED> terminated abnormally: T.30 T2 timeout,

'recvq/fax000000102.tif' 'ttyS0' '000000146' 'T.30 T2 timeout,

----

When I made some searches on this problem I saw posts of people
talking about reducing error checking or even turning it off
completely. I don't know too much about this stuff so I wonder if this
is a problem from the sender or from my end or from just crappy phone
lines.

Below is the full log of the bad fax (got that twice and then I got
the "RSPREC error/got DCN" notification which is even longer. Any
ideas or help is appreciated.
