Force to dig everywhere I found when the fax port was re-installed at a RH9 
boot-up that irq4 (ttyS0) was assigned to the serial mouse.
I changed in /etc/inittab ttyS0 to ttyS1
make 'faxaddmodem ttyS1'
restart Hylafax
and it went up and running
