Re: [hylafax-users] Question on send-only faxing

I found the following concerning send-only faxing:

Send-only configurations can be implemented by not running the
/faxgetty/ program on ports where fax modems reside (though doing this
can reduce the effectiveness of the load-balancing work done by the
queuer). Receive-only configurations can be implemented by running
only the /faxgetty/ program on ports where fax modems reside.

I have faxq and hfaxd both running and without the faxgetty program

no faxes go out.
The information to which you are referring is incomplete and somewhat
misleading. Where did you see this? It leaves out that in a send-only
environment where you will not be using faxgetty that you must, then,
run faxmodem instead to inform faxq that the modem is available for use.
Unlike other fax programs, HylaFAX does not go and probe for modems and
try to use any available modem to do the job. Instead, HylaFAX
faxqueuer waits to be informed about a modem and its capabilities before
allocating any jobs to it. This is done in order to properly distribute
jobs across the modems according to the modems' feature-support,
priority, and other job-related specifics.
The recommended way to have a send-only environment is to *still* run
faxgetty, but to disable it from answering calls by setting
RingsBeforeAnswer to 0. The only time you should ever need to not run
faxgetty is when doing so interferes with the usage of another
modem-using program (in-particular one that answers incoming calls) such
as mgetty. And in this case you would need to run faxmodem for each
configured modem after faxq is started and again after each time you
restart faxq.
