The limitation to 9600 bps in receiving (versus 14400 bps receiving) is 
essentially because the V.17 support in IAXmodem is alpha-quality.  The 
DSP author is not yet trying to get V.17 perfectly right.

But yes, V.34 is patented and without licensing IAXmodem will not, in 
the foreseeable future, support it.
