"Waiting for modem to come ready" generally implies some problem with
the modem's state.  It happens when faxgetty tries to go through the
modem reset sequence, and the modem either stops responding, or responds
with errors, or other things that faxgetty interprets as bad.  After a
certain period of trying to reset the modem and continually failing, the
wedged notices start happening.

It's not usually anything in HylaFAX itself that will fix this from
happening.  a modem physical restart will usaally be needed.

If it's an external modem, just power-cycling it should be enough.  If
it's an internal modem, a machine reboot will likely be needed.

As to why it's happening - that's a bit harder to answer. It could be
reacting badly to a particular sequence of commands HylaFAX is using.
It could be reacting to a particular line "event" (like voltage spike,
etc).  It could be reacting to a computer power event (like voltage
drop), etc.
