Andrew, Thanks for your email. I would like to see the specs of your new range of cards. We are a producer of fax servers in Singapore and the region with some niche features and thus we are always on the look out for good multiport analog fax cards. If you could, please send the brochures and specs to me. And also, where can I purchase these cards? Thanks! Some of my American colleagues can be a little brisk sometimes. Unfortunately, Caller ID is covered by a multitude of standards worldwide, and in the UK for instance we have three different types in use by the major Telco's. The Agere chipset supports systems that have a US bias which MAY include Singapore who nominally use a variation of Bellcore TR-NWT-000031 (See IDA TS PSTN 1 A-CLIP for more details of the Singapore system [http://www.ida.gov.sg/]). I understand that your test experience shows that Caller ID works for you in some parts of the country and not others and this could be explained by variations in the Telco's implementation or problems with the Agere DSP. Caller ID within the Agere Venus chipset is handled by the DSP and is effectively 'hard coded' so there is very little that we can do within the modem firmware to change the basic Caller ID detection algorithms. We do not claim to support Caller ID in Singapore on the current products. Indeed, as a company we are always extremely cautious about promoting anything that we have not fully tested ourselves (one of the reasons why we have an approvals process for Fax, Data, and Caller ID applications that we recommend). Mainpine offers a 30 day guarantee for customers who purchase direct (some resellers also offer this). This is designed to allow customers to 'try before they buy'. As I said in my response to John's question, the new IQ boards do include support for international Caller ID. These boards do not use the Agere chipset and therefore do not have the same hard coded restrictions. Your advice is spot on.... Ask the questions before you buy, choose a reseller who offers a 30 day exchange, and test your application during that time. At the end of the day we want happy customers ! Unfortunately for me, it cannot seem to work in some parts of Singapore... "I confirmed with Agere (the chipset manufacturer) and they do not officially support Caller ID functionality in Singapore. Here at Mainpine Inc. we have not tested this functionality as well, so we officially do not support it either. Unfortunately, there isn't anything we can do about the issue with the Agere chipset. Because this is not an officially supported functionality, we cannot approve an equipment return based these issues because your Mainpine RockForce cards are working correctly for all supported functionality." - support@mainpine So, please check before you buy. But if you do not need Caller-ID, I would say that the Mainpine cards work pretty well. Yes, we support Caller ID 'out of the box' (meaning that you will have some configuration to do in HylaFAX but nothing more than you would expect). If this is of interest to you then talk to our sales guys about the new IQ series boards. These support most (if not all) worldwide standards for Caller ID detection and have some unique features including a 'snoop mode'. Tell them what you need and we will do our best to help you. Will the mainpine boards detect caller-id out of the box when use with Hylafax? That could be very useful as we wouldn't have to rely on the sender having their fax correctly configured. If we want to force the sender to pass CLID we can always put a no-CLID block in place. -----Original Message----- From: andrew rinaldi [mailto:andrew.rinaldi@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, June 15, 2006 3:02 AM To: 'Neil Doody'; 'John Warren'; hylafax-users@xxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: [hylafax-users] Multiport fax cards > 2) Multi-Tech MultiModemISI 5634UPCI/8 Data/Fax Modem 8 analog ports This is a full length 'dinosaur'...
