I was really kind of hoping that you had some (any) other kind of modem 
available to you (borrow for a day?) simply to test with that would help 
discern whether the bulk of your problems were modem-related or were 
elsewhere.

Normally the Rockwell/Conexant chipsetted-modems are more reliable than 
what you've shown me.
