This is the way it was started when I inherited the system some 5 years ago. The basic intention is that should the processes
die, the inittab will restart the process automagically - hopefully picking up where it left off without user intervention.
If you kicked the process off from an rc.d then it would be a one shot - on a failure the fax system would be down.

In theory this is great. But as we don't run faxgetty here, we have to manually re-add the modems - which sort of defeats the whole concept really doesn't it *grin*.
