[hylafax-users] New Community site

Since everybody seems to be throwing in their opinion, I will add mine as a
voice also heard.

As a user (not commercial - just an individual), I have absolutely no problem
with the HylaFAX web site, or it's content apart from the lack of current
update. Even that doesn't bother me since the forums afforded all the help I
needed in getting HylaFAX installed and updated.

I cannot help but notice that the users that seem to have a problem with iFAX
having an advert box on the site are people that are selling their services
to commercial interests in installing and maintaining HylaFAX (or at least it
seems that way from the content of their posts).

Maybe if those people were to provide the h/w and s/w and labor for
maintaining the site their complaints would mean something to me. Since they
don't, but want to make a profit from the s/w, their arguments are just so
much whistling in the wind to me.

As far as Lee setting up a different site, well at least he is going to the
trouble to do so (I have inferred from his posts that he is also selling his
services in installing and maintaining the s/w for commercial customers). I
have absolutely no problem with his doing so. I have not investigated his
site on sourceForge and have no intention of doing so. But from the reports,
he seems to have billed his site as being the work of the "HylaFAX developer
team". Unless Lee is the sum total of the "team", that smacks of either a
large share of hubris or just plain dishonesty.

Lee seems to have chafed under the current working conditions of the
"Official" HylaFAX site and, since he is selling his services for the s/w, he
seems to have chafed under the fact the iFAX was displayed on the site and
not his advert. Thus, setting up his own site was perfectly reasonable for
him to do. I just don't agree with his billing the site as a "HylaFAX" site
under the sponsership of the "HylaFAX developer Team". Doing so just dilutes
the HylaFAX name and reputation. Having 2 HylaFAX sites doesn't help the user
in any way.

He says that he is not the only one working his site, but has studiously
avoided naming other names (they are just "anonymous"). I cannot think of any
reasonable excuse for not doing so since there is nothing illegal in what Lee
has done. Maybe there are ethical or moral reasons for the "anonymous"
developers not wanting to be named??

As far as I am conerned there is only one HylaFAX site and it will continue as
the HylaFAX site.

Thank You for the opportunity to voie my opinion and "vote" in the matter.
