Re: [hylafax-users] new community site

Honestly, I make no such claim. I truly am sorry if I've given you that

hype that Darren is causing.
Lee,
I realize you mean no malice or ill will -- but that's not to say that
your actions, from the perspective of a 3rd party who's been an active
community member on a number of other politically charged OSS projects,
appear in their effect to be respectful of the remainder of the
development group, unless they are taken with the consent of said group.
I've seen projects fork and active maintainers retire on account of
politics, and it's not fun -- and your actions are getting into the
realm of things which can spark such events.
Given that you've been one of the developers most helpful in terms of
providing support to the user community at large in the few months I've
been monitoring the HylaFAX list, and given the extent to which even
those who question some of your actions acknowledge that you've earned
the responsibility the project has given you, I'd hate to see too severe
of a break.
So, again, from the perspective of a 3rd party with fairly little
knowledge of the HylaFAX project but a fair amount of time and
involvement in others: You might want to be careful to be sure that, in
the case of a traditionally community-governed project, you aren't
taking actions for which community guidance would be appropriate without
asking for and receiving that guidance first.
And frankly, pinning the blame on Darren for folks finding this course
of action objectionable... well, I find it a little hard to swallow.
Starting a new web site and bug tracker without an open proposal and
discussion first is a rather forward act.
I honestly don't mean anything I'm saying here to offend -- I just don't
want to see the HylaFAX project to experience the same upheaval I've
seen elsewhere -- and some of your actions, even if well-meaning, may
well be leading things in that direction.
