If *I* had started up hylafax.sourceforge.net, forked the code on there, 
and branded it to look like an official site of the HylaFAX project (as 
opposed to a 3rd-party fork), you would agree that I would be doing a 
Wrong Thing, correct?

Lee may well be a important and useful member of the HylaFAX project -- 
but he is not the project embodied, and should not claim to be so; there 
are a great many others whose resources are embodied.
