looking through the archives and rpm-find it looks like mimencode is 
associated with metamail, and I found also that the variable mimencode is 
only set in etc/config.cache (which is obioisly used of compiling)

On the other hand, Lee Howard wrote in

You probably have metamail installed and you should remove the MIMENCODE 
line.

So, what now? just install metamail?
