If you want to facilitate document exchange (from physical documents)

Scan-to-email.
Can anbody recommend any such copiers?
There's a lot of them. And, a lot of new fax machines also support
this. Panasonic, HP, Canon, Ricoh, etc.
A lot of the fax machines will call it "internet fax" - meaning
scan-to-email (rather than T.38).
Just look, you'll find them.
That said, it's a relatively easy endeavor to create a "network
scanning device" by hooking up a Sane-driven scanner with an
Apache+PHP-enabled server. With a little bit more work you can get it
pumping those scans to sendfax. The user does it all from their own
browser or from Mozilla running on X on that system itself. I did this
for a client once, and there were scan-to-file, scan-to-email, and
scan-to-fax functions. I think it took maybe a few hours to write.
Most of the work was after that, trying to learn and implement the
various Sane features with that scanner. In the end it was a very
feature-filled document center for the hardware price of a PC and a
scanner.
