Re: [hylafax-users] Can't send faxes any longer.

I don't know what causes it either but I had to do three complete fresh
installs to finally get it working. The first time it appeared to work
fine (faxq, hfaxd, and faxgetty started with no errors from 4.2.0rc2
rpm compiled from the src.rpm). I didn't send or receive any faxes,
thought. This was on a clean install on a new HD, so I reinstalled
again on my original primary drive and it didn't work (faxgetty could
not communicate with the modem). Then I did another clean install, did
a ./configure, make & make install from the 4.2.0 tarball, and I just
now sent a fax and according to the log file it went through fine.
faxgetty appears to take a long time to initialize the modem (Multitech
MT1932ZDX/0116), though, and report a status that faxstatus interprets
as "Running and Idle".

This all started because I couldn't get faxgetty working on Fedora Core
2, and was seriously considering switching to Debian. I decided to get
a new hard drive, do a fresh install, and give it one more try. The
fact that it seemed to work okay prompted me to do a third fresh
install rather than give up and switch after faxgetty wouldn't start,
but I still don't have a clue what the problem is. And I've got so
many confounding variables in the mix - such as 4.2.0rc2 rpm worked
once and not the second time and the latest (working) install is 4.2.0
compiled from the tarball - that I don't know that the information I've
provided here will help anyone beyond "Try a fresh install".

Let me know what happens if you try that.
