In order to help you we need you to set ServerTracing in 
/var/spool/hylafax/config.ttyS0 to "0xFFF" and then restart faxgetty.  
When you encounter "can not initialize modem" again then you need to 
send us the preceding FaxGetty entries from /var/log/messages.

You also should change SessionTracing to 0xFFF.  When you have this 
trouble then you should send us the associated session log.  In this 
case it is /var/spool/hylafax/log/c00000006.
