[hylafax-users] beginner problems initializing modem

Hi,

I'm new in hylafax.
I worked my ass through tones of tutorials and can not get hylafax to
work.

I can call my machine an the fax answers.
But sending and receiving does not work.

I tried to send a test fax with the following command I found in a
tutorial:
la | sendfax -n -d 1822
I get the expected answer on the prompt but /var/loga/messages shows up
with the following error:

	Jul 8 10:07:08 HylaFax FaxSend[2073]: MODEM MD56XX 57600/
	Jul 8 10:07:08 HylaFax FaxSend[2073]: SEND FAX: JOB 2 DEST 1822
COMMID 00000007 DEVICE '/dev/ttyS0'
Jul 8 10:10:15 HylaFax FaxSend[2073]: SEND FAILED: JOB 2 DEST
1822 ERR Unknown problem (check modem power)

Receiving a fax causes the followinf error in /var/log/messages

	Jul 8 10:02:19 HylaFax FaxGetty[1961]: /dev/ttyS0: Can not
initialize modem.
	Jul 8 10:02:57 HylaFax FaxGetty[1961]: MODEM MD56XX 57600/
