The problem is with the modem firmware.  HylaFAX cannot *fix* it.  In 
pre-4.1.6 versions the problem would cause faxgetty to hang until it 
was killed.  Now it doesn't do that.  *That* was the fix that was 
implemented into 4.1.6.

I would imagine that we could quickly reinitialize the modem at that 
point and get it going again to actually work around the firmware 
problem, but I don't have the ability to reproduce that scenario (nor 
the motivation to do that).
