[hylafax-users] nonsense characters in tagline

I get "NÀÅÔÚISÂÅÆÈ" or something on the top of each outgoing page (tagline).
The config.ttyS1 contains
TagLineFormat: "From %%l|%c|Page %%P of %%T"
Hylafax version is 4.1.1. Sorry about asking about an old version, but I want to use the one that's in Debian.
