I have two RedHat 7.3 boxes (completely different hardware) and two RedHat 8.0 boxes (again completely different hardware) and two external modems (with standard old-fashioned RS232 serial cable, not USB). The old modem, which is no longer available for sale, works on all the boxes. The new modem works on both the RedHat 7.3 boxes and neither of the RedHat 8.0 boxes - with the two RedHat 8.0 boxes it behaves identically - the received fax has numerous lines missing and the cover page is NAKed three times by the receiving fax machine (and resent twice), then Hylafax gives up and doesn't send the rest of the fax. The old modem is an E-Tech Cyberbullet, which Hylafax identifies as a Rockwell chipset, capable of Class 1, 2 and 1.0 - I picked the default - class 1. The new modem is a Swannsmart Turbo 56K Class 1 fax modem, which Hylafax says doesn't match any of it's known modems so I just chose all the defaults. It seems likely to be a flow-control issue - apparently RedHat have stuffed something up in the serial port settings in RedHat 8.0 but I'm not sure what.
