Please note that older hcf drivers for linmodems did not have fax support.
 Make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest version for fax
support.

Better yet, dump trying to get your linmodem working.  I tried and was
frustrated for a while.  I got a serial modem instead (many recommend
multitech but I seem to be working ok with a 56k USR faxmodem).
