If HylaFAX is not compatible to your specific hardware/OS installation, pick up a used 100/200 MHz Pentium class computer with minimum 16 megs memory, install minimal Slackware 8.1, install your modem and put it on your lan. Total cost of hardware including a nice new 10/100 network card is probably under $100. Most businesses have a couple old boxes lying around so you may be able to get it running for almost nothing. HylaFAX doesn't need a lot of CPU power even with a constant send/receive load so the only consideration is reliability. I have HylaFAX running on a P150 with 32meg and Slackware 8.0 and last reboot was 31 days ago when the machine was relocated. That's my recommendation.
