faxcron calls xferfaxstats

try
  xferfaxstats -age 7
is this empty also? probably yes.

check
  SPOOL=/var/spool/hylafax
at the begining of xferfaxstats

did you upgrade hylafax, did you move/copy your
spool directory? maybe xferfaxtstats looks at the old one?
