It occurred to me on linux too (the *.exe thing), but faxes were sent ok.
Maybe there is some problem with ghostscript or ghostscript options used by
ps2fax and your ghostscript?

I'd make a copy of ps2fax, and try to edit it by hand until I'd found the wrong
option, or maybe just execute by hand, directly, the command it executes after
variables substitution.
