No, I'm not sure of how to do any of that. The first place I'd look is
your etc/config.fax and make sure the setting strings are reasonable for
your modem (what did the faxaddmodem script do when you ran it?). I had
trouble with my modem (Telebit T3000) until I reset the EEPROM to factory
defaults. You do that by connecting directly to it and issuing the proper
commands (use cu or kermit or whatever).
One more thing to try, your config.fax file has:
AdaptiveAnswer: yes
This might be related to your retraining problem.
And finally, a long shot, could it be that your telephone line level is
too high (too loud) and you are overloading the audio circuits in the
receiving modem? Try with a remote sender.
