Help! HylaFax won't handshake

The main log file stops at exactly that point on purpose.

You then have to look in /var/spool/fax/log for the log of the
comminications for the specific session.

I'm at home right now, no access to work to be able to give you more
details, but check out that directory, and you may have to increase your
logging levels.
