flexfax: faxaddmodem: "unable to perform all requested operations"

Is it normal to get errors like "unable to perform all requested
operations" while running faxaddmodem?

I'm running hylafax 4.0.2-11 on a Debian system w/ kernel 2.2.10.

It's getting the error when it tries to set the modem port to speed 0,
looks like.

The modem seems to respond well under minicom.

Any ideas?  Thanks.
